Located in Vergne in the western reaches of Barolo, Vajra has been producing terroir driven wines since 1972. From Barolo to Moscato, Vajra is one of those rare estates where seemingly everything they produce is world class. Vajra’s Langhe Rosso bottling, which is a blend of Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Barbera, Dolcetto, Fresia & Albarossa, has always been a favorite bottle at Swigg. According to Guiseppe Vajra, the wine is to serve as an introduction to the Piedmont region. In the glass, the wine is reminiscent of pinot noir, with crushed violet, dusty cherry, and creamy raspberry permeating on the nose. The wine comes across almost “gulp able” but its well-balanced acidity holds the wine together and makes a versatile partner for many dishes.
