Roucas Toumba, Pichot Roucas, 2017
Roucas Toumba’s 16 hectares of vineyards has been in the family since before the French Revolution. Prior to that and still today they sell the wine to the Perrin family of Ch Beaucastel. With the 2003 vintage Eric Bouletin took over his father’s 3 hectares of parcels in the southern Rhone village of Vacqueyras. In taking over the family business, Eric chose to follow the example of many in France’s natural wine movement, and has been farming and working in the cellar without chemicals, synthetics, or commercial additives since day one.
The Pichot Roucas bottling is blend of Grenacheand Syrah blended with old Carignan (of which 50% whole clusters) and aged 6 months in concreate. “In the glass, the displays dark fruit aromas of plum and fig with a whiff of smokiness.”-RL
